Thinking of or in the process of starting a Labour Hire company? This Podcast will talk you through the key steps that you will need, and puts a particular emphasis on getting you thinking and planning about how you will start, resource, market, and manage your new team on behalf of your clients.

By listening to this Podcast, you will learn:

This section of the Podcast is based on around 30 labour hire start-ups and around four existing recruitment businesses that wanted to start a labour-hire business and get a licence in the process. It covers all the basics that you need to think about and plan for.

The Podcast will take you through what is involved in terms of the steps:

  • Step 1 – Discovery
  • Step 2 – Research analysis
  • Step 3 – Design and writing
  • Step 4 – Financial information gathering (from external sources)
  • Profit & Loss, Cashflow, and Balance Sheet
  • Projections out for three or five years

I’ve been writing one or two of these plans per month for the last two years, and I’m delighted to say that so far, every single one has been approved. All of my plans are professionally written by myself and my small team, and they’re competitively priced so they won’t blow your budget.

How to go about your discovery process yourself (or with a Business Plan Writer)

First of all, you need to think about the overall strategic approach of your Business. For example, are you going to:

  • Bring workers in from overseas on visas
  • Supply skilled labour to meet demand in the mining, civil, aged care, child care, or hospitality industries
  • Or disrupt a professional services sector such as accounting and bookkeeping with highly skilled but more affordable talent from overseas

If you want to write your own business plan

Market research; If you are doing it yourself, you will gather competitor, industry, and local market data – this should be around 6 to 8 pages in length. Use only trusted sources of data from reputable market research companies.

This ensures your plan is strong enough to not only attain both national and state accreditation, but also to serve as a roadmap for business growth.

Risk matrices should describe risk types and categorise it. Aim for at least 4 pages of these

Financials should include projections for revenue / sales, costs, expenses, and cash flow to create your Profit & Loss, Cashflow, and Balance Sheet. Do these at monthly level for the first year

How to do the research analysis for your Business Plan – or to hire an Expert

If you do this yourself, or if you ask us to do it for you, the process is exactly the same. You or we gather and analyse the necessary information, such as:

  • Market research
  • Risk matrices
  • Financials: projections for revenue / sales, costs, expenses, and cash flow to create your Profit & Loss, Cashflow, and Balance Sheet.
  • SWOT analysis content

This ensures your plan is strong enough to secure a labour hire licence from your local state department, while also serving as a practical roadmap to grow your business.

Financial projections for a Labour Hire Business are very key.

If you do the Plan yourself and your licence is rejected, we have learned from clients who have hired us after this has happened to them, this is the most likely reason you will not get a licence.

Planning and projecting your finances (revenue, costs, expenses, cashflow) is very key because you need to demonstrate financial feasibility to get a licence.

Designing and writing your Business Plan document

The Podcast will talk about the importance of allowing time to do two drafts. A good Business Plan needs to hang together well and the different Sections need to support each other and all make sense once read in one go. The Podcast talks about this in more detail but briefly, when you are reviewing your first attempt or draft, you should be looking to have or improve:

  • Clear written content
  • Charts, pictures, and graphs
  • Detailed financial tables

Drafting and Finalising your Labour Hire Business Plan

If you do the planning for your new Labour Hire Business yourself, make sure that before you send it off to a finance company to get finance (for example, for payroll) or the licencing authority in your State, make sure that you have someone else read it thoroughly. We can do that for you if you like via our one-hour critique and coaching service.

If you are doing it yourself, here’s the process we recommend:

  1. Write a rough draft of all of the words and written content
  1. Then add your charts, graphs, and financial tables
  1. Professionally proof the document (after you have had a mate or an expert advisor read it and check it for you)
  1. Sent the Plan off with your application for a Labour Hire Licence or to your finance company to arrange for your payroll to be funded.
