By listening to this Podcast, you will learn:

  • The steps and process that we use when writing a Business Plan
  • A top-line view of our methods
  • If you decide to get help, the Podcast will help you understand which parts of Sections you may need help with and which you can do yourself – this should help you save time and money.

One of the most common questions we get when people call about our business planning services is: what’s the process for writing a plan?

The good news is—we have a clear process. But more importantly, we have the expertise. Writing a high-quality business plan requires four skill sets:

  1. Financial skills (usually from an accountant)
  2. Market research expertise
  3. Critical and analytical thinking
  4. Writing, formatting, and proofreading skills.

My team brings all of these together. Each of us works on specific sections of the plan, and I oversee the process to ensure everything integrates smoothly into the final executive summary.

Since late 2000, I have written more than 700 business plans for a wide range of industries, sectors, and business size, from sole trader start-ups, to national chains and franchises. Every plan is professionally written by myself and my small team. They’re also competitively priced so they won’t blow your budget.

How we go about the discovery step

Once you buy a plan from us, we begin with two simple steps:

  • A 10-minute questionnaire to gather basic information
  • A 30–45-minute chat to understand your business, why you need the plan, and what data we should gather for you

Sometimes clients provide most of the information themselves. Other times, we collect 90% of it. Either way works fine—we’re fully equipped to do the research.

Research analysis for a Business Plan

Research analysis involves gathering and analysing the necessary information, such as:

  • Market research
  • Risk matrices
  • Financials: projections for revenue / sales, costs, expenses, and cash flow to create your Profit & Loss, Cashflow, and Balance Sheet.
  • SWOT analysis content

This ensures your business plan not only attracts investment or helps you secure a lease but also serves as a powerful ongoing Business Planning tool to grow your business.

Designing and writing your Business Plan document

The Podcast will talk about the importance of allowing time to do two drafts. A good Business Plan needs to hang together well and the different Sections need to support each other and all make sense once read in one go. This will help you both secure investment or a potential lease. The Podcast talks about this in more detail but briefly, when you are reviewing the first version of your Plan, you should be looking to have or improve:

  • Clear written content
  • Charts, pictures, and graphs
  • Detailed financial tables

Finalisation

The Podcast then talks about, if you have written the Plan yourself, either the first draft and/or two drafts, now is a great time to get it checked by an Expert. If you are nervous about the financial sections, the Podcast recommends you talk to your Accountant; if you are nervous about the legals, you can talk to your Lawyer. Of, if you prefer to get all of this done with one single professional, a Business Plan Writer can help.
